When you rent a car, ask for two sets of keys; in case you lose one you will have a backup.
Bring over-the-counter medication with you for headaches, indigestion or other medical issues you may experience. You may not find what you need at a local drug store while away on vacation.
Try not to change cities on a Sunday because you’ll find that train times are infrequent or destinations limited, and also businesses may be closed.
When you’re packing before your trip, leave room in your suitcase for small gifts or souvenirs you might purchase while away.
An easy way to remember your destinations when taking photos is to take a picture of a sign with the city’s name on it. Or, take a picture of the itinerary for the day.
Sometimes even chain hotels can be disappointing. If you run into poor service, call the hotel’s toll-free customer service number and log a complaint; you may get a free stay or discount.
