Making an Important Decision
Why is travel insurance so important? You might be wondering what value travel insurance brings to your trip. We’ve outlined just a few of the reasons why travelers choose to protect themselves and their families with travel insurance.
‘Top Ten’ Reasons to protect yourself with travel insurance:
Unpredictable world events…
- If the US Department of State or a major print media (Associated Press, Wall Street Journal or Reuters News Service) reports an act of terrorism in the foreign city at which you are scheduled to arrive in the 30 days following the report, travel insurance can reimburse the non-refundable portion of your prepaid travel arrangements.
- If a natural disaster (such as a hurricane) causes your airline, tour operator or cruise line to cease services for a pre-defined number of hours, and if you need to cancel your trip as a result, travel insurance can reimburse the non-refundable portion of your prepaid travel arrangements. If your trip is interrupted as a result of a natural disaster, travel insurance can cover the cost to get you home.
- If a natural disaster renders your principal residence uninhabitable (or your place of business inoperative) and you need to attend to things at home and cannot travel as planned, travel insurance can reimburse the non-refundable portion of your prepaid travel arrangements.
Unexpected family matters…
- If your or your spouse’s employment is terminated (e.g. due to layoff), resulting in your trip being canceled, travel insurance can reimburse the non-refundable portion of your prepaid travel arrangements.
- If you (or a member of your immediate family) encounter complications of pregnancy arising within the first 31 weeks, and you need to cut your trip short and return home unexpectedly, travel insurance can cover the cost of your transportation home and reimbursement for the non-refundable portion of prepaid travel arrangements.
- If you (or a member of your immediate family) are admitted to a hospital due to a medical emergency, and you need to return home unexpectedly, travel insurance can cover the cost of your transportation home and reimbursement for the non-refundable portion of prepaid travel arrangements.
The unforeseen…
- If your tour operator, cruise line or airline files for bankruptcy after you have put down a deposit, travel insurance can reimburse the non-refundable portion of your prepaid travel arrangements (your deposit), provided the travel supplier does not appear on our list for which we do not provide financial default of a travel supplier. Certain conditions apply. Please see the travel insurance policy for details.
- If your cruise is canceled due to mechanical failure, quarantine or repositioning due to weather conditions, travel insurance can cover change fees charged by the airline, carrier, or your non-refundable prepaid airfare that is not part of your cruise package.
The uncontrollable…
- If you arrive at your destination and your luggage does not, travel insurance can reimburse you up to the coverage amount to replace your baggage and personal effects, passport, driver’s license, birth certificate or travel visa, and will cover administrative fees to reissue lost airline tickets.
Assurance…
- If you are traveling to a foreign destination and do not speak the language, travel insurance offers access to 24/7 assistance services including assistance with medical services, transportation services, personal and legal services and travel advice.
